An old saying is “Beauty Lies in the eyes of the beholder” If you ask me, I will say that It’s only valid when the beholder is standing in front of something beautiful like mountains, hills, Ocean, etc. We all love to travel, explore beautiful places, and have different experiences. So many of us love to do adventure in our lives, and in search of more and more adventure, we go to the more distant places far beyond the reach of some everyday traveller who travels to spend the weekend and have fun .
So many of us love to do trekking through challenging mountains; Difficult treks are where only a few people go and where not even GPS also not works, and sometimes we need to remember the most important things which are very useful for us in the trek. So here I will tell you the few most important things you should consider or Take with you while you are planning a hike. It doesn’t matter what your tour is or which level. Whether it is standard, intermediate or Tough you should take care of these things first, then start your trek.
Also, I will share few of my personnel experiences of Everest Base Camp Trek which I did few years back. I am sure you would love it if you love trekking .
1. Bring Enough Water : When planning a small or big trek, you must take plenty of water. Also, please consider that you are trekking in which season and when you will return. For example, if you are doing the Triund trek, you will find so many water bottles in mid because there are so many shops in between, but if you are doing the Annapurna trek (Nepal ) or EBC (Everest Base Camp, Nepal) then you must carry a water bottle that too hot water bottle in which your water will become desirable for so many hours because on the trek the temperature is shallow. If you have an average water bottle, your water will freeze in only a few hours. You cant drink water when you need it the most. So please consider the trekking place, but you must carry a water bottle.
2. Layering Of Clothes: Some new trekkers carry few clothes and start trekking. I would not suggest that, So at the time of trekking, you will always feel hot and you will remove your clothes and put them in the bag but often when you do trekking at high altitudes like Chandra Taal trek you will feel cold once you stop walking. So it would be best to keep your clothes on, especially wind shutter. It would be best if YOU covered your ears and head when you trek in the snow—always layering clothes when resting at some place, camp, or night. At least 4 layers of clothes on your body to avoid cold. Layering clothes is essential because when you wear different clothes, the air between your clothes works like an insulator and saves us from cold weather. So it’s always better to layer clothes instead of just one jacket.
3. Proper Shoes: When you go for a trek, many people make the wrong decision and then suffer all their trips. Please understand that regular sports shoes are not meant to be worn on challenging treks. For example, I went to the Everest Base Camp trek even though My professional shoes were not good enough there, and we had to use Iron spikes to walk on the snow. So please wear proper Good resistance shoes for trekking. Regular shoes sole is not suitable for trekking especially when there is snow on your treks.
It would be best if you always chose your shoes wisely with a sole having an excellent grip . You can buy good shoes from any Decathlon store or online at Amazon..
4. Enough Money: Money is also a significant factor in treks. You should always carry enough money with you in Credit cards, Debit cards or in cash. I suggest you always have a good amount of money because you never know whether card machines will be at a certain height. Sometimes the machines are not working at a remote place or sometimes, due to heavy snowfall, you get stuck for a few days, and at that time, only cash will help you. So you must always carry some money in cash. As they say, “ Cash hai to Aish hai “.
5. Proper Trekking Bag: Maybe it doesn’t seem very important to you; maybe you will think that it’s just a bag and a bag is a bag. How does it matter which bag? Trust me, Bag plays a vital role in trekking as you always have to carry your bag on your shoulder, and if your bag is not a proper trekking backpack, you will be in pain all of your trips. There are so many benefits of an appropriate load of trekking. The bag has an excellent design already in place to fulfil all of your requirements so that you will feel comfortable during your trek. So many good companies are out there regarding a decent trekking bag. My favourite is Quechua. You can buy from some other company as per your choice also. But please take a good trekking Bag once you go on a trek.
6. Proper Medicines: I hope that if you are planning for a good trek, then you must be in good shape mentally and physically, but still, I would recommend that you must take a few essential medicines with you for headaches, Fever, loose motion, Motion sickness etc. One of the most critical medicines is Diamox when going to a suitable height trek Like EBC, Annapurna, leh ladder etc.
Also, choose medicine as per your existing or past medical history, if any. Also, you can carry a few pills to clean up the water and kills unwanted bacteria in water. Sometimes, when we go to the hills and drink pure water, few people aren’t able to digest that water, so at that time, these medicines will help you out. You need to put a few medicines in water, and you can drink that water then the water will be easily digestible.
7. Good Guide: This is also a significant thing when you are going on a good trek. One good guide is a must for a good trekking experience because a guide knows everything about the place and every route, and he will help you in good or bad times and make you feel safe. Also, when you talk about the arduous treks, almost 90 % of people, even professional trekkers, take a guide with them. So please don’t avoid guides. Also, a good guide will tell you about the place in more detail about the local things, how local people live their lives, how they earn money for their living, etc. So you must take a good guide with you if you are doing an arduous trek. But you can avoid this if you do a simple tour like triund.
8. Proper Packing: I mention good packing here because so many people don’t care about it and pack their bags a few hours before the trip. But it would be best if you packed your luggage a few days ago, at least one day ago your luggage must be ready.
YOU should always make a list of items first which you want to take you on the trip; then you should gather all the stuff and then pack as per my suggestions above. Don’t forget your Stuff like what you need every day: soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, Socks, warmers, etc. An immature person always does the packing in a hurry, but an experienced or organised person packs everything after making a checklist, depending on the trip. It would be best not to carry more stuff or heavy clothes because you can’t carry heavy items on the trek. And always use miniatures for your property.
9. Do exercise: You maybe think that you are perfectly fit, but trust me, it’s always better to be suited, especially when you are planning a trek because there you will need so much energy and strength from your body. So at least 15 days ago, you started running and Jym before going on a trek. If you are fit, then trust me, you will enjoy your trip more. Also, always choose your food wisely before or during the tour as maybe you get sick if you choose bad food and you miss the trek, or during the walk, you feel sick and you can’t complete the walk. Also, avoid eating non-veg if you are non-vegetarian during the tour; during my Annapurna trek, my guide suggest the same thing to everyone in the group, please avoid non-vegetarian during the whole time, As maybe that animal you are going to eat is sick, and you will also get so ill always take great care of the food you eat before and during the trek.
Trekking is great fun, but yes, if you are careful about the small things, you can enjoy it more and more. Let me know if you like the above tips from me and yes, of course, also share if I missed anything important. Also, please write your views to Daindiantourist@gmail.com. I will reply to your emails with so much love.
