Jaisalmer: The Golden City of India

I went to Jaisalmer in Feb last week of 2020 . Jaisalmer was in my bucket list from many years but never had a chance to visit and explore this beautiful place . I have always heard about this Golden city that Jaisalmer has beautiful forts, Markets, Street food, Sand dunes and world famous longewala post of Indian Army where we defeat Pakistan Army in the year 1971.

I had So many reasons to visit Jaisalmer and now finally I got a chance to visit this and experience the golden city of India . and now I am sharing my experience with you guys so that you will get to know more about this place and you also visit this place .

So I started my journey from Gurugram as Gurugram is my Native place. We were few friends who went together, We started our Journey in My Car which is Mahindra XUV, a very nice and comfortable car for long road trips. We started around 12 Midnight and we left from Gurugram and we took the route from Jaipur Then Jodhpur. We stayed At Jodhpur The next night and Visit few places there. I don’t recommend you to drive to Jaisalmer straight you should take a halt in Jodhpur so that you enjoy your journey.

Next morning we started our journey after having our breakfast at hotel and we started around 9 AM. From Jodhpur jaisalmer is just around 28 Km which we covered in 5 hours. We went straight to our Camp which we Booked already. If you go to Jaisalmer you must stay at Camps, they give you very unique and local experience. Once we reached at camps they gave us welcome drink and some snacks and they told us to rest few hours and get ready for Jeep safari in desert. In around 4 pm our jeep came and we went in the Jeep to have Jeep Safari. It was a very thrilling experience because they took the Jeep in desert area and the path was so up and down we thought that we will fall but the driver was so good and having a very good balance even on that sand. After around 20 minutes drive the jeep took us to the desert.

After some time we were on the back of camels and enjoying Camel ride which was the part of our Package. Camels are considered the Desert ships. we enjoyed Camel ride around 15 minutes It was very Awesome experience. But The Jeep safari Experience was even better so I requested the Driver to give us more ride and he agreed and we again had some more Jeep ride Experience. Then we had so much time to enjoy desert ad Sunset view. After beautiful sunset The jeep took us to the camp again and we had some rest there.

After some rest around 8 pm our camp having some authentic fold singing and dancing show so everyone come outside along with Evening tea with Pakoras. Some Local singers and dancers were singing and dancing. It was very good environment and i was enjoying with my friends. The singer was too good and sang some Rajasthani songs. After the show they gave us good dinner around 10 Pm we had dinner and after dinner we slept to get up for the next morning.

Night Food At the Sand Dunes Camp Jaisalmer

Next morning we enjoyed sumptuous breakfast of Bread, Jam tea, Coffee, Poha, Aalu Parantha and we left from the Camp around 10 am.
Our Next destination was Tanot Mata Temple.

The Indian Tourist At Shri Mateshwari Tanot Rai Temple

Which is the most famous and important place in Jaisalmer. I want to tell u more about the temple. During the 1971 War between India and Pakistan, Pakistan Army fires more than 100 bombs on this temple but none of them explode. Not even a small bomb explode and the temple was scratch less even after heavy shelling from Pak side and yes everyone know that we won the war as well. So after the was Indian Army Make this place a big temple and put few bombs inside the temple for tourists as proofs. Indian Army believes that till the Tanot Mata Temple is there no-one can harm Their Post.

Pakistani Bombs which were never explode inside the Tanot Mata Temple

Tanot Temple is located around 4 hours from longewala. In case you don’t know I tell u that in 1971 Pakistan Army Attacked India from longewala Post and want to win India, But our great soldiers in the leadership of Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri didn’t allow even a single person to took our land. They killed many of Pakistani soldiers and Captured their Tanks and jeeps which you can see there. They are still there. This was comsidered one of the biggest and bravest battles won by any Army in the world. Because Pakistani Army had around 3000 to 4000 Soldiers with around 40 to 50 Tanks and Indian Army just had 120 Soldiers and still we won this war in the great Leadership of Mr Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri. Indian Army showing a small film there as well on the 1971 war. We saw it and feel so proud on our Army.

If you Visit Jaisalmer you must come here to see what our Army doing for us to stay safe and your respect for them will increase more.
After Tanot temple is around 2 hours distance from Sand Dunes where you will be taking your camps and you will take around 4 hours from Tanot temple to longewala.

After we finished longewala we came back to Jaisalmer City and Visited Jaisalmer fort, At night we visited local market which was so beautiful. It is so big and beautiful you need around 5 hours to visit the fort. we stayed at Jaisalmer tonight. Next morning we left Jaisalmer after our breakfast at our hotel. Once you leave Jaisalmer city you will see the War Memorial on the left side once, You must go there as you will see our war heroes there and what they did for us.
